Strengthen and lengthen, one breath at a time!

What is Pilates?

Pilates aims to strengthen your muscles while improving your postural alignment and flexibility. – It’s a form of low-impact exercise that’s kind to your joints. Each movement is practised with control – moving
precisely and slowly – with a big focus on breathing.

Here’s why you should start Pilates….

And will it work for me?

  • Maybe you’re wanting to tone up, improving core strength and overall fitness?
  • Perhaps you’re approaching perimenopause, menopause or post-menopause?
  • Are you a runner looking for strength + stretch work to aid performance + reduce injury?

Choose the right Pilates class for you

Why Pilates?

The six Pilates principles are: Breath, Concentration, Control, Precision, Centre and Flow. My goal as a Pilates teacher is to help you to work on all six in each session. By committing to regular Pilates you’ll improve your overall body strength and flexibility. I can guarantee you’ll leave the class feeling taller and energised.

Where are the classes?

Classes are both online and in-person at various venues in and around Chester.

How does Pilates work?

1. Pilates concentrates on your posture

Do you stand or sit for long periods of the day? You might find yourself hunched over a desk? Pilates will strengthen our muscles to help correct our posture.

Good posture also positively influences what’s going on inside your body:

  • decreasing pressure on your spine
  • reducing your chance of back pain and injury
  • helping you to take deep breaths

2. Pilates is great for your core strength

This is true – it’s brilliant. Though it’s important to recognise that your core isn’t just the abs alone. We should work on stabilising and engaging all our core muscles, including:

  • the deep stabilisers like your pelvic floor
  • the psoas muscle in your lower spine
  • the multifidus muscle on either side of your spine
  • the transversus abdominis between your ribs and pelvis

3. Pilates helps you to switch off from everyday life

Sometimes we just want to slow down and press pause. In each Pilates class I will invite you to take some time just for yourself – to focus on you.

Breathing is an integral part of Pilates –, this is where the mind + body connection comes in.

Clients often say to me, “I really needed that – I feel much calmer now.”
